My need to express the wonders of the marine life I see on scuba diving
trips is what inspires me to create emotional oil and watercolor paintings.

Underwater photography of the marine life and quick ink sketches after
dive trips are later transferred to larger paintings in my studio.
I believe 'style' is a relative term and I have developed one which allows
me to most freely "recreate" the underwater world and the marine life I
love.

Come with me now on a trip under the sea.
Come with me.....
see the world through my diving mask.

Queen Angelfish are found throughout the Caribbean.
The name comes from  the speckled blue-ringed black
spot on the head, which resembles a crown.
The tall narrow body is about 12" long, but can get to
18".  They swim by  rowing their pectoral fins. The
thin, long dorsal, anal and caudal fins allow turning

Octopus are closely related to squid, nautlilus and
cuttlefish.
Octopus have eight legs and feed mainly on small
fishes, scallops and shrimps with their jawlike beaks
located in the under center of their bodies.
As a defense, the octopus can quickly change
its skin color to blend into the background,
camoflaging from potential enemies.
As an added defense, the octopus can squirt blank ink
to provide a smoke screen, thereby giving him time to
get away.

Parrotfish are some of the most colorful fishes on the
coral reefs.  As the parrotfish swims, the pectoral fins
flutter like a bird.
The parrotfish's teeth are fused into a parrotlikebeak,
and this is what gives them their name.
Parrotfish feed mainly on corals and produce
enormous amounts of sand for our beaches.

Jellyfish are
invertebrates with
umbrella shaped bodies
called
bells. Along the
edge of the bell are the
fingerlike tentacles.
Hanging from the
center of the bell are
the jelly's lacy oral
arms, covered with
stinging cells.
Some jelly's are
poisonous, others not.
On the beach they look
like blobs, but in the
water they are very
graceful.
They range from 1" to
200 feet long and have
drifted the oceans for
650 million years.

Seastars (or starfish) are not fish at all,
but an animal called an echinoderm.
There are 1800 known species, ranging
from 5 to 40 arms, depending on the
species.
A seastar can drop an arm if a predator
grabs it, but can grow another, taking
about a year.
The mouth is on the underside in the
middle of its central disk.
Sea turtles are reptiles related to lizards,
snakes and frogs. Their ancestors date
back over 208 million years.
Sea turtles come on land to lay eggs,
mostly on beaches where they were born.
Of the eight species of sea turtles in the
world, all of them are
endangered to the
point of extinction
mainly by activities of
humans.
