Pronounced (zhee-clay), Giclee is the French word for spurt or squirt.
It is a relatively new digital process and has been around since 1985.
The original painting (the artist's image) is digitally captured by an ultra-
sophisticated digital professional 4X5 camera containing 108 million pixels
(about 335 Mb per shot), using a state of the art universal spectrum polarized
lighting system.
The Giclee printing process creates extremely small drops, approximately 15
microns wide or one-tenth the width of a human hair. The drops leave the nozzle at
a rate of one million drops per second, traveling at more than 85 miles per hour.
Although each drop exits the print head the same size, the drop size is changed through
the diversion process. When the larger drops reach the canvas, it provides greater
penetration and better color saturation.
They are then coated with 3 coats of custom varnish to give them a rich, finished look
and for added protection.
This exacting control contributes to the Giclee's superiority in its ability to honor
the original art.
All of my Giclee's are reproduced on 100% cotton canvas or 100% Rag
Watercolor Paper.
The Giclee's are 100+ year archival inks and come with a limited lifetime
guarantee and a Certificate of Authenticity from me (the artist) and the print
maker that I use..
